Trump, On Why Lincoln Was Successful: "Numerous Reasons ... He Was A Man of Great Intelligence ... He Was Also A Man Who Did Something ... A Very Vital Thing To Do ... 10 Or 20 Years Before, No One Thought What He Was Doing Was Possible ... He Did Something That Was A Very Important Thing To Do, Especially When He Did it"

In 2016, Bob Woodward of the Washington Post asked Donald Trump a question:
Why did [Abraham] Lincoln succeed? Thought about that at all?
Trump's actual answer:
Well, I think Lincoln succeeded for numerous reasons. He was a man who was of great intelligence, which most presidents would be. But he was a man of great intelligence, but he was also a man who did something that was a very vital thing to do at that time. Ten years before or 20 years before, what he was doing would never have even been thought possible. So he did something that was a very important thing to do, and especially at that time. And Nixon failed, I think to a certain extent, because of his personality. You know? It was just that personality. Very severe, very exclusive. In other words, people couldn't come in. And people didn't like him. I mean, people didn't like him.
If you read all of that, your IQ is now 10 points lower.

Let's review:
Lincoln succeeded for numerous reasons
He had great intelligence
He had great intelligence
He did something
It was vital
Before he did something, no one would have thought that something was doable
He did something
It was very important
Richard Nixon [???] failed because of his personality
It was that personality
Very exclusive
People couldn't come in
People didn't like him
People didn't like him
What the hell does Nixon's personality have to do with "Why Lincoln succeeded"? Nothing!

Was Trump talking about Lincoln's personality and using Nixon's as a contrast? No.

Does Trump know anything about Nixon's personality? No.

Does Trump know anything about Lincoln's personality? No.

Does Trump know a single thing Lincoln did that might have made him successful? Perhaps.

Does Trump agree with that successful thing Lincoln did? It's doubtful. On June 11, Trump told Fox's Harris Faulkner that Lincoln "did good", but "it's always questionable ... the end result". Ending the Civil War was questionable? Ending slavery was questionable? Getting assassinated was questionable?

In 2017, Trump explained that he saw "no reason" why the Civil War needed to be fought:
The Civil War, if you think about it, why? People don't ask the question, but why was there the Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?
People don't ask the question, because it's a stupid fucking question. Everyone with a non-rotted brain know the reason why the Civil War was fought - it rhymes with "blavery" - and they understand the war was unavoidable and necessary.
